Life in a Robin’s Nest
I know this is not nesting season for robins, but I was so charmed by this short video I received the other day that I want to share it. It amazes me how the baby robins can hold their mouths straight up and open them so wide. I guess the chicks have evolved to maximize their chances of getting the food they need.

This is absolutely wonderful! I’m grinning from ear to ear. It’s so tempting to attribute human emotion to these precious birds, but couldn’t you just hear that last fledgling, teetering on the edge of the nest shouting, “Don’t leave me by myself, you guys!” And then the adult bird returning to the empty nest and wondering, “Where did they go, where did they go?” Don’t you think he/she then went off to find the spouse and celebrate the empty nest syndrome?

Brilliant, beautiful, charming, enchanting. I am going to send this on to a couple friends who need some cheering up.

Even birds need both parents working. But who knows–with this economy the way it is- that last young bird may go back to the nest.
