A Loving Experience

Joan Brundage, of Tucson, sent me this write-up of a recent experience she had.  I found it moving and asked her if I could share it with Earth Connection readers.April Moore
“I had a sacred experience with a bird on Sunday.
“My husband Alan and I were driving up a road near my house when I noticed a movement in the middle of the road.  We drove back and I ran out in the road to find a beautiful injured male Gila Woodpecker lying in the road.  I picked him up in my hands, and we brought him home in a car as cool as the AC would make it.
“Initially, his beak was wide open with his tongue sticking way out. He was struggling with heat stroke and, in bird fashion, was trying to cool off.  Birds don’t perspire the way we do;  they perspire through their beaks.
“We got a medicine dropper and got him to drink hummingbird water dribbled on his beak.  Then he calmed down and closed his beak.
“One eye appeared to have a pebble in it.  We took him to a wild animal rehab unit in Tucson where a volunteer first rinsed his eye out with saline solution, and that dislodged the pebble.
“I was amazed by this bird’s beauty and trust.  He never once tried to pecck me or escape from my hands.  I think the Reiki energy flowing in my hands helped to soothe him, as well as my telling him that he was safe and should rest.  And he did rest in my hands, all the way to the rehab center.
“To hold a bird in one’s hands like this is truly a sacred experience!  The bird will recuperate and then will be released back to the desert where he can live out his life.”–Joan Brundage

Beautiful! And so many parallels to the pain we could save ourselves if we wouldn’t struggle so much and started relaxing and trusting a bit more…

I am intriguead by this piece. I wonder what Joan meant by ‘reiki’ in her hands. Could she explain?

    Kaye,
Reiki is an ancient Japanese healing technique which I learned many years ago in a class. In that class, the energies flowing through my hands were reset so that healing energy would come through me from the universe. Now when I put the palms of my hands on any injured or painful place on myself, other people or animals, my hands get warm and the energy flows. When my hands cool down, the healing energy stops flowing and my hands cool down and feel “normal” again. If my tummy hurts, I put both hands on my tummy in a certain position, and it’s very soothing. I can put myself to sleep this way. You can “reiki” your entire body to feel better as well as do a whole body reiki treatment on someone on a massage table. You can also feel by your hands’ heat where you or someone else needs some healing energy. I also do healing touch and can tell where someone has an old injury or pain without the person I’m working on telling me anything. My hands just heat up.

This is the third time I have held an injured bird in my hands and none of the birds have attempted to peck me or struggled. A screech owl was going into shock but didn’t and made it alive to an animal rehab unit and a hummingbird stunned by flying into a skylight, lay in my hands for an hour until he flew freely to freedom. I think the birds feel my hands’ healing energy and know they are safe so they can relax and be peaceful. If you’re interested, I’m sure you can find out more info as well as a class in your area. There are many levels of Reiki training. I did level I. It’s a wonderful gift to oneself and a blessing to those around you.
