We received 10 inches of snow so I put out some of the really good seed. Then I kept going to my patio door to watch. It was the female cardinal that held rule over the feeder itself. But the sparrows pushed enough out that all the others were happily feeding on the screen under the feeder or on the ground (snow). I smiled all the time I stood at the door watching. I'm sure I project on to them happiness at finding easy food on a cold day. I’ve been watching the birds at my feeder too today. You have a fresh way of seeing. And your observation that the smallest birds seem the most selfish reminds me that the tiny hummingbirds seem the most fiesty when it comes to sharing a feeder.
